Overview
Cathedral House, Inc. is the social services arm of Cathedral of Praise Ministries, founded in 1997 by Bishop Melvin C. Dawson, Jr. and Overseer Dr. Kay Williams Dawson. In 2007, Cathedral House, Inc. was launched to extend the ministry’s faith-centered mission into direct, structured social services that strengthen families and restore hope within the community.
Vision
We believe that children who are abused, abandoned, or neglected hope to be reunited with their parents—and that parents hope to be reunited with their children. Our vision is to support that hope through professional supervised visitation services that focus on attachment, separation, loss, reunification, and healing, while prioritizing the safety and emotional well-being of every child.
Program Purpose & Approach
Family separation is a deeply traumatic experience that often disrupts critical parent-child bonds. While visitation is frequently court-ordered and statutorily required, barriers such as transportation challenges, limited visitation sites, case overload, and lack of supportive supervision often hinder compliance.
The Cathedral House Visitation Center exists to reduce these barriers by partnering with community-based care providers and the courts to ensure consistent, high-quality supervised visitation in a safe, non-adversarial setting that promotes positive family interaction and progress toward reunification whenever appropriate.
Community Collaboration & Outreach
Collaboration is central to our model. Cathedral House actively partners with faith-based organizations, governmental agencies, and community providers to streamline services, reduce duplication, and improve outcomes for children and youth involved in the dependency and delinquency systems.
We also host the annual PROMISE Baby Shower, a community initiative rooted in the belief that “it takes a village to raise a child.” This event celebrates new life and provides tangible support to parents—including trafficked girls and boys—as they begin their parenting journey.
Through financial contributions, space donations, and sustained programmatic support, Cathedral House, Inc. remains a trusted community partner committed to building stronger families, safer communities, and restored futures.
